Nancy Rothstein, The Sleep Ambassador®, is the author of My Daddy Snores, a children's picture book published by Scholastic Inc. The wonderful illustrations on this site are from the book. The illustrator, Stephen Gilpin, has taken a story and magically brought it to life. We hope you’ll have an opportunity to see the book, if you haven’t already.
This companion website for My Daddy Snores extends our readers’ opportunities to learn more about snoring and sleep apnea, as well as provides education about sleep hygiene and other sleep related issues. Many of you have come to this website because you want to STOP the snoring noise and improve your sleep, as well as that of someone you care about.
Nancy was inspired by her husband’s very loud snoring to write My Daddy Snores. Frequently escaping her husband’s snoring to another bed in the house, she knew she was not alone and had visions of people playing “Musical Beds” all over the world! One morning while helping in her daughter's kindergarten class, exhausted from another night of interrupted sleep, Nancy wrote a story on a piece of construction paper about a family who didn't sleep well because of Dad’s noisy snoring.
Now, getting the book published was the next step! With luck, perseverance and editors at Scholastic Inc. who recognized how universal the problem of snoring is, the manuscript was accepted for publication. With an Afterword included in My Daddy Snores, which provides an intro by Michael Gelb, DDS and educational and informational resources for readers, the project was of particular interest to Scholastic Inc. as they are the leader in educational enrichment through reading.
Nancy’s goal is to increase awareness about snoring and what may lurk behind the noise through My Daddy Snores and www.mydaddysnores.com. Snoring may seem funny to some, but it may be indicative of serious health issues hiding behind the noise, particularly obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a condition that needs medical attention, including diagnosis and appropriate treatment. We are not medical experts. So, we are providing you with a Resource Center where you can obtain information and guidance from the leaders in the field of sleep and sleep medicine. For those who have no medical condition and are seeking ways to eliminate the snoring noise, as well as to learn more about sleep, there is guidance for you as well.
A good night’s sleep is essential to happy and productive days for everyone. Snoring is an epidemic that is compromising the sleep of both snorers and snorees in families all over the world. We are here to help and thank you for coming to visit www.mydaddysnores.com.
This website was made possible through a generous gift from the Respironics Sleep and Respiratory Research Foundation. We wish to express our gratitude to the Foundation for supporting our shared commitment to raising awareness and supporting education about snoring and sleep apnea.
